Giclée Prints
A giclée (zhee-CLAY), is an individually produced high-resolution reproduction of a piece of artwork. It is done on a special large format printer and is printed onto high quality archival paper or canvas. When printed on canvas, it can be stretched over wood bars and framed in exactly the same way an original would be. It truly is "the next best thing" to having the original piece of art.
In addition, a giclée can be enlarged or reduced proportionally from the original to suit your specific requirements.
Why a giclée?
Here are a few reasons why you may choose a purchase a print instead of an original:
- You've found something you really like, but the original is unavailable.
- You've found something you might really like, but would like to see it in place first.
- You've commissioned a portrait, or other work, or found an original that you would love to share with family and friends.
- The price of the original just isn't currently in your art budget.
- The original won't fit properly in that perfect place you have planned for it.
Whatever your reason, a giclée print is a great option to consider!
Which works are available as prints?
All giclée prints are custom made to your specifications, so almost everything you see in the galleries on this website can be made into a print.
Options
Giclée Print on paper - Only the finest Hahnemühle archival papers are used.
Giclée Print on canvas (flat) - On archival Hahnemühle Monet Matte Canvas 410gsm. Monet Canvas is a heavy cotton canvas with a woven pattern. Its natural white color is perfect for art reproduction. Provided with an additional 2" of canvas border all around to allow for stretching should you choose to do so on your own.
Giclée Print on canvas (stretched) - Same as above, then hand stretched on wood bars, and presented to you ready for framing.
Varnish - Highly recommended. Varnishing will increase the lightfastness of your print and make the surface water-resistant. It adds richness to the blacks and color gamut of pigment and inks. It also preserves your colors from fading. Additionally, the varnish will protect your canvas from cracking and guard against fungals caused by environments with high humidity. The varnish leaves nothing but a clear coating after application. This process will add an extra day or two to the delivery time. I believe this to be a necessary step and include it free of charge with all my prints. Please inform me if you would prefer your prints unvarnished.
